The COVID-19 pandemic, and the measures taken to deal with its fallout, have resulted in a global economic crisis, from which South Africa will not be spared. The country’s real GDP for 2020 is forecast to fall by around 10%, with at least 1 million accompanying job losses, even with the current economic rescue package. In this session, two economists - involved in developing COVID-19 economic policy - explore the measures taken by the South African government and ask: are they enough?
